Following the assumption of the office of Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau, this year’s Eid prayer will be performed at the Mallawa Eid ground along the Zaria-Jos new road.
Finding by Daily Trust shows that every ruling dynasty of the Zazzau emirate has its Eid ground located in different parts of Zaria.
This is the first time in about 62 years that Eid prayers will change venue in Zaria, as the last two emirs before Ambassador Bamalli were from the Katsinawa dynasty, hence Eid prayers were performed at their Eid ground at Kofar Doka.
Confirming the development, the Chief Protocol Officer of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Abubakar Ladan, said this year’s Eid prayers will be performed at the Mallawa Eid ground.
Daily Trust reports that late Emir Muhammad Aminu, the 17th emir, is from the Katsinawa dynasty and he ruled for 16 years before late Emir Shehu Idris emerged as the 18th emir of Zazzau and occupied the throne for about 46 years.
Residents of Zaria below the age of 70 grew up to know only the Katsinawa Eid ground.
There was excitement in Zaria, as residents are anxiously waiting for the Sallah day to be part of history by observing Eid prayer in the Mallawa Eid ground after about 100 years of inactivity, our correspondent observed.
