How to Get a Work Permit
One of the main pre-requisite of obtaining a work permit is having a job offer in the country. The employer offering you the job position will need to issue a letter of confirmation which would be required during your application for a work permit.
Although, some work permits might not necessarily require you to have a job offer, with some only requiring you to have an LMIA and some not requiring either a job offer or an LMIA
Note that you’ll only be issued a temporary work visa which would only be valid for a stipulated time. You can however change your status to a permanent residence by taking advantage of the various immigration programs in the country.
How to Obtain Permanent Residence
Federal Skilled Worker: As a temporary worker in Canada, this immigration program allows you to obtain permanent residency if your temporary job position is made permanent. However, you’re required to meet some eligibility criteria before you can be eligible to apply for permanent residency with this program.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
This program allows temporary workers in the country to become permanent residents of the country through nomination by the province. Once you’re nominated by a province, you’re then eligible to apply for a permanent residency permit.
The country has thirteen provinces and territories with each province and territory having its own separate provincial nominee program.
Canadian Experience Class
This is another program that allows temporary immigrants in the country to obtain permanent residency. You need to have worked in a skilled position in the country for a minimum of two years to be eligible for the program. There are other criteria and requirements that you must meet before you can apply for the program.
